Walk 1 – Hunwick Village Short Walk

About this walk

  1. From the village green/Joiners Arms walk downhill (North East) to the church. Turn right (East) at Station Road, signed “ leading to Hunwick Station Railway Terrace” and follow the lane to join the Brandon to Bishop Auckland railway path at Hunwick Station car park. (possible to begin the walk here)
  2. Turn left (North) and follow the railway path for just over a kilometre to the first barrier and turn left off the railway path (South West)
  3. Follow Rough Lea Lane as far as a sign to the Cricket Club and Bishop Auckland Girls FC then turn sharp left (South East) on to Hepworth Lane. Follow the road around to the right at a bench passing play equipment where it becomes a hard surfaced path. Follow the hard surfaced path as it zig-zags to a gate then turn right (South West) to a kissing gate.
  4. A short lane leads back to the main road. Turn left and follow the main road back to the start, passing the school and the church/war memorial. Cross the road at any safe point if necessary.

An alternative route from the entry to Hepworth Lane is to continue to follow Rough Lea Lane to the main road then turn Left and follow the road through Hunwick to the start.
