The Two Hunters

A little further along South View from the Joiners Arms stood the original pub, which was first recorded in 1828 under the name of The Two Hunters. It later became the The Two Bay Horses and the two pubs co-existed until the 1960s.

Nicholas Welsh was the victualler in the first mention of The Two Hunters. It is also recorded that in 1899 the pub was undergoing “extensive renovations”, which was the excuse given by the landlord, Robert Crawford, for mistakenly mixing “a quantity of brandy and whisky then adding water to the measure required for whisky”.

Joseph Griffiths was landlord in 1925 and Chas Higgins in 1938.
