Willington and has been on the map since the days of the Roman Empire. It has undergone many transformations in its time, from a small farming village in the Early and Middle Ages to it’s Victorian boomtown days after the sinking of the coal mines, and its shift to the commuter town it is today.
The Hidden Heritage project worked with local schools and the local community to uncover lesser-known stories about the town and it’s surrounding villages and show the world that there’s more to Willington than you might think!
